All In October ( Theme for the Month )

Good morning and Happy Monday. Brand new month. Brand new attitude. The past is the past. The future is unlimited. As we exit the month of Gratitude in September based on 1st Samuel 7:9-12 we enter a whole new month. On this the 275th day of the year this is the month that all the major sports kind of meet up together. In baseball the league gears up for the playoffs and the World Series. In football at least 4 games have been played and some teams like the Arizona Cardinals are surprising all as they may be Superbowl contenders. In basketball training camp will be starting to prepare the teams for the next and as usual one team will be the NBA champions. In hockey even though as of this writing there is a lookout often times they would be in training camps and getting ready to start the season to crown the Stanley Cup Champions. Even most of the summer sports such as tennis and golf are preparing to select who is the best at their sports. As Christians we have been preparing the entire year to reach our fourth quarter. Our time to show the everything we have learned all year as well as went through and brought through. So after praying on a theme I was shown that this month is going to be called All In October.

In keeping with the theme of All in October I wanted to find a base scripture to best share that theme. Something that without a doubt would prove that despite what the odds may have been against you still went
all in because you knew God had your back. These prior months I have had themes dealing with jubilee, freedom, things gone, things found, growth, faith, winning, love and gratitude so I wanted to find a proper scripture to show all of these things. As I searched I saw two scriptures that were similar in dialogue but in two different areas of the Bible. The unique thing about the base scriptures for the month it started on the same verse but ended on different verses. The base scriptures are coming from the book of 2nd Kings 19:14-19 and the book of Isaiah 37:14-20. In the previous chapters ( 2nd Kings 18 and Isaiah 36 ) Sennacherib the king of Assyria, the world power at the time is threatening to destroy Judah as he has done Israel. The Assyrians have taken over everywhere else and thought the man made carved gods of other nations were on the level of Yahweh. King Hezekiah went all in with a prayer to God and did not have to lift a finger. That is how great our God is. In the next 3 paragraphs I will use other examples of those who went all in even when it did not look like they would be alright.

My first person in this blog who went all in Judges 3:15 and his name is Ehud. In the earlier text of this chapter we see where the king of Moab, Eglon was able to take Israel as they had once again turned their
on God. So the people had to pay a tribute or money to the king of Moab since he taken over the land. The children of Israel grew tired of the people of Moab being their oppressor and turned to the Lord once again to deliver them and chose Ehud to change the course of their history. In times of like today we the people are calling for a deliver. In the text God used Ehud because he was not like most people and that being he was left handed. Ehud had already had the blessings of God to deliver his people so he could have come into the palace showing his weapon and would have stilled prevailed. As we look at verses 16-30 Ehud not only was able to slay the king of Moab who oppressed the people of Israel but ten thousand great men of honor and valor. We as Christians can also defeat our enemies who attempt to oppress us. The same living God who helped Ehud when he went all in will also help you with any oppressors or oppressing situation you may have.

In looking at another example of going all in the Bible I am going to go to the Old and The New Testament. The reason I am connecting these passages because they are what we are supposed to be today to the
world. A connection. So the first scripture is coming from Zechariah 3:8-10. This passage speaks of the Branch that God has set in the world. During this time the rebuilding of the Temple was taking place but the people in charge were not fully behind it. In the New Testament we see in Luke 1:76-80 how John the Baptist is becoming that connector, that Branch that connects the world to Jesus. We people of the belief that Jesus died for our sins have to be all in so the world can know the light that emits from us. We are that Branch to the tree of Life. We are here to prepare the way for the Lord. We are the connectors to Christ.

In this final paragraph I use this as my final example of going all in. In Matthew 2:7-12. In this passage we see where Herod is troubled by the word that the Messiah has come. The rulers of this time knew the words

of the prophets and knew the people of Israel served a true and living God. So Herod sent the three wise men on assignment to seek out the Messiah. The wise men rejoiced for the knew when the saw the star everything was going to alright. They brought the child presents and worshipped him. But they also listened to God and knew Herod would hurt the child if he found him. The wise men went the other way. In our walk as Christians there are times we need to go all in and walk away.
In closing we as faith based people need to have a all in mentality. In the area of education we must be all in and look closely at those who are school board leaders and email them about our concerns. In the area of family we must be all in to save the structure of the family even if it is having at least a 15 minute talk every day. In the area of arts and entertainment we must go all in to support those financially the people who make music, poetry, television, radio and artist. In the area of government we must go all in and know who represents us in our communities. To many times when there is an election we see faces but after that we see the faces no more. In the area of religion we must go all in and be connections for the community to see that God is true and living God. How many times have you invited a person to church, Bible study or just prayed with them. I am guilty of this but am now going all in. In the area of business there has to be concerted effort here to support and shop and promote faith based businesses. It most times takes money along with our other values to effect change. Finally in the media area we must support  and go all in writers, bloggers and even those who Facebook and Twitter who spread the good news. So this month once again I plan to All in October. To God be the glory. I am a writer for thegeekchicmag.com. I have a blog talk radio show called Brand New Week, Brand New Attitude. I am on Facebook as Frederick Wesley. I am on twitter @brandnewweek. Join me next week for my blog called All in of a Champion. Have a great month.
