Portrait of a Champion

Image
Good morning everyone. Brand new week. Brand new attitude. The past is the past. The future is unlimited. As the summer months get into full swing I just wanted to introduce everyone to some one they should know. This person is what many would call a leader in his/her profession. This person would be aware of his enviroment as it changes and would adapt to the changes. This person  looks as themselves as being succesful no matter if they are the CEO of the biggest corporation or the person who may be out of work now. This person is pleased with their appearence no matter how the world views them. This person is well versed doing things like motivating and encouraging while keeping a positive attitude and leaving the negative out. This person stands out in a crowd and can also move a crowd. This person is goal oriented and sets out to be on his/her A game each time they step out of the house. This person is the subject of this blog called the Portrait of a Champion. It is a great fe

Good morning and Happy Monday. Brand new week. Brand new attitude. The past is the past. The future is unlimited. As I woke up this morning I was in a great mood. My family is doing well. My friend and I are doing well. And I just taught my second Sunday School Class and it involves challenge and I am going to make sure my team wins ( Team Holy Warriors ). So as I step out of the house and I am driving my friend's vehicle I make a right turn and I here a siren behind me. I first wonder if I had done a traffic violation, a rolling stop is what I actually done, and if the officer had saw me. Much to my relief it was an ambulance instead. I pulled to side and then I hear the ambulance driver call over the loud speaker to step out of the car. I am stunned but I actually obey his command. He informs me that I performed a rolling stop, I did and that he wanted to see my license and registration. I am confused but I hand the Ambulance driver what he asked for. The ambulance driver then

Since I been Loving You

Good morning and Happy Friday. Back in 1976 I met the most beautiful teen in the whole wide world. We met each other at church and did mostly everything together. Although I had already had a couple of girlfriends ( my first girlfriend was a Cynthia Brown on 18th and Avers ) before 1976 this young woman was the apple of my eye. She was very beautiful and also outgoing. She brought out some of the things in me that I thought I did not have and I did so with her as well. I really liked going to Second Mt. Vernon because I knew she would be at Sunday School, Sunday Services, 3:30 services, BTU, Vacation Bible school and any other service we would have. When the church sold dinners I would eat the one that she cooked. We talked on the phone for hours. We were in love. We wanted to get married. We wanted to make love and at age 13 we wanted to start a family. We would do anything we could to see each other. But with all of this love that we shared with each other we forgot about the thing

Celebration of 1-18-2012

Good morning and Happy Monday. Brand new week. Brand new attitude. The past is the past. The future is unlimited. As we enter another week I just want to be able to enjoy a few things. A few days after this writing I will be moving from the city back to the south suburbs. The part of the city I am moving to is Roseland and it is considered what some may call dangerous. But I am originally from Chicago and  grew up not far from the area and even my Mother stayed in this area before she moved south. So as I prepare to move I think about some thing that should have been more recognized but in a way should have occured more often than this. I think about a press conference by the Police Chief of Chicago as well as the Mayor. On January 18th of the year 2012 the city of Chicago announced that for period of 24 hours that there had not been a murder or in that time frame no one shot period. At that time it had been over a year since that had happened. Since that day shootings have increased

Let The Rain Come Down

Good morning and Happy Friday. The summer is now beginning and the weather is now reaching its highest temperatures. It has reached a high point of 90's so far in the Chicagoland area and it appears to be nothing in sight to relieve us of these conditions that are almost drought like. As the summer gets ready to start in earnest next week we anticipate the warmest temps of the year after a winter that saw a little snow but the hawk, ( that's what we call the wind in the CHI ) was in full effect. But the sun has been out daily and we need a little moisture in our lives. We expect things to get wet in order for us to not only cool off but to wash away some things and bring a freshness of new things in our lives. The hotness of the weather coincides with the hotness in our lives. We need things to cool off a little bit but need some things to come down so we can enjoy the things in our lives that is promised to us as Christians. We are faithful and trusting in his Word. So as we

How Can I Move The Crowd

Good morning and Happy Monday. Brand new week Brand new attitude. The past is the past. The future is unlimited. When I first started going to Valley Kingdom Ministries I did so as Security Officer working the parking lot detail for a security company. I would only go inside to use the bathroom and would never inquire about what was going on inside. I always spoke to one of the Praise and Worship leaders as she walked out ( Angie ) and called her the songstress as she left after singing. But my responsiblity was to make sure that we (  the two other people from the security company ), had to make sure that the area for Apostle Wilson was free of any cars but also direct traffic as they came in and even left the church grounds. This was the easy part of the detail. The hardest part always came when church had let out and all the worshippers were done and on their way home from services. We now not only had to direct traffic but not we had to move the crowd as they came out and traffic

Extreme Makeover ( Family Edition )

Good morning and Happy Friday. One of the most thought provoking blog and even Facebook posting is the How Do You View You blog and Facebook posting. It makes a person look on the inside and outside of who and what they are. But not many people are happy with how they look outside and even less with the inside as they think they have no personality or even spirit. One thing that people who I have worked with, and you see I said people I work with, is that they see I have high energy. I shouted down the hallways of Thornridge High School, greeted people as they drove by on Roosevelt and Jefferson, bellowed good morning or said brand new week, brand new attitude or said great job today to people who walked thru or worked at 175 W. Jackson and even told strangers on the street or cashiers in stores that they are great at the job that they do. But as I look at those example of things that I never told any one in my family, close friends, people I know personally that they have done a gre

Good morning and Happy Monday. As an adult I have had many jobs. One of the most challenging was being a Security Officer. I did not have the authority as the Police Officers, Sheriffs or Dectectives that wore badges. I did not carry a weapon that would deter potential people from doing harm to some one else, harm to their selves or harm to someone else and their selves. So pretty much to the average person my power limited when I approached them about something they were doing wrong. The worst part was that when I started working in the Security Field I had to work in a high school. I had heard the stories and seen first hand how destructive the youth could be. I was actually, to be honest afraid because I did not know if I could not only relate to the students but the administrators and faculty as well. But I needed an income and because of poor choices in my past regarding education I had to settle for this job as the job market was evaporating in the field I was used to working in
