Celebration of 1-18-2012

Good morning and Happy Monday. Brand new week. Brand new attitude. The past is the past. The future is unlimited. As we enter another week I just want to be able to enjoy a few things. A few days after this writing I will be moving from the city back to the south suburbs. The part of the city I am moving to is Roseland and it is considered what some may call dangerous. But I am originally from Chicago and  grew up not far from the area and even my Mother stayed in this area before she moved south. So as I prepare to move I think about some thing that should have been more recognized but in a way should have occured more often than this. I think about a press conference by the Police Chief of Chicago as well as the Mayor. On January 18th of the year 2012 the city of Chicago announced that for period of 24 hours that there had not been a murder or in that time frame no one shot period. At that time it had been over a year since that had happened. Since that day shootings have increased.

No shootings or murders in city for 24-hour period on Wednesday

Updated: February 21, 2012 8:37AM

Wednesday marked the first time since early 2011 that there were no shootings or murders in the city of Chicago in a 24-hour period, Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said in a statement released Thursday.
“On January 18, for a 24-hour period, there were no shootings and murders i the city of Chicago,” McCarthy said. “The last time we went a day without a murder or shooting was nearly a year ago in early 2011. This is clearly the result of the tremendous police work of the men and women of the Chicago Police Department.
“Since May, the Chicago Police Department has put more officers back into districts working to keep our communities safe; introduced CompStat, a data-driven approach to fighting crime; and empowered district commanders and given them increased resources to reduce violence in their districts,” he added.
“While we are making progress,” McCarthy said, “we still have work to do and will not be satisfied until we significantly decrease the number of murders in every community throughout the city.

So in looking back at this historic day I want to say that it was bitter cold, -7 degrees at the sun normally goes down around 4pm. The weather was still the same at 3:30am on January 19th as man was shot at a gas station. Since that time there has been no more celebrations as each day somone is shot or murdered in Chicago and other parts of the city. We all want to blame to police for what is happening. we all want to blame the government for what is happening. You have some who wants to blame it on the churches for not getting involved more. There could be the blame game from here to the end of time but sitting around pointing the finger is not helping in the least bit. If we want to take back our cities, our communities, our lives we cannot sit back. When was it accepted that in order to walk down your own street you must do so at a certain time or it is not safe. When did the criminal element, most of who do not own homes or property step up and take over. When did it become accepted that in the areas of arts, entertainment, business, education, media, government, family, and religion that we allow the criminal element run rampant. When do we as adults do something in these areas in a positive light so we can celebrate the new shows that re faith based, the growing businesses in our communities, the improved school system, the faith social networks, the improved system of government, structured families and a church that works not just on Sunday but everyday of the week to provide some kind of relief. When is our Celebration day. To many times though we are in this followng mode. Just chilling.

To many times I have just chilled and that has got to change. It just take effort. We can start by helping get identify the problem areas in our hoods and report them to the police and even to the congress person or senators. Many times if not all the money for helping fight crime comes from the state or federal so if we do not say nothing then a close mouth will not get fed. Write them so we can see changes in the area of education. This is area that can be described as a way out but with crime rampant this area suffers. Please lets do some thing in this area before it is too late. If we support the businesses that support out community with job and resources, it would not be so hard to get the violence stopped because the people in government listen to those who contribute to their canpaigns. Real talk. We need places for those with dreams of being entertainers and artist to fine tune their skills and talents. We must write the media and ask for their help in promoting positive stories. If you hear that you resolve conflict through violence all the time then it becomes norm. We must have family nights with families in the hood as well as our own so we can get to the root of a problem. If a parent knew there child was having problems with someone who wants to shoot them I am certain they would get involved. In the area of Religion you may have the resources or the time but if your doors are open in the hood more people would come to you for help. In 2nd Chronicles 7:14 God tells of what he will do if we do what we need to do. Because as of this writing murders have increased 36% in Chicago alone. We cannot be scared. We must be Champions. Have a great week. Brand new week. Brand new attitude. The past is the past. The future is unlimited.
